JSW MG Motor India has launched a new taxi-focused version of its popular electric car, the MG Windsor EV. The new variant is called ‘Commute’, and it is aimed at fleet operators and commercial use.

The launch price of the MG Commute is set at Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom, without battery subscription). This makes it the most affordable version in the Windsor lineup and around Rs 60,000 cheaper than the base Excite variant.

The company had earlier introduced the Windsor EV with a battery-as-a-service model, which helped reduce upfront costs. However, there was no dedicated commercial version until now. With the Commute, MG is now entering the fleet EV segment more directly.

In terms of design, the Commute shares many features with the standard Windsor Excite variant. It gets flush door handles, 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights and rear fog lamps. Other features include power windows and a glass-integrated antenna.

Inside the cabin, the car offers reclining rear seats with a 60:40 split, adjustable steering, rear AC vents and an electronic parking brake. It also includes cruise control, keyless entry and auto climate control.

On the safety side, the car comes with six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control and hill descent control. These features remain unchanged from the standard model.

However, to keep costs lower, MG has removed some features. The Commute does not get a touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted controls or connected LED DRLs.

Since it is built for commercial use, the vehicle may come with a speed limit of 80 km/h and additional telematics features for fleet tracking.

Powering the car is a 38 kWh battery pack, paired with an electric motor producing 136 PS power and 200 Nm torque. The company claims a range of 332 km on a single charge. Charging options include a standard AC charger and support for fast DC charging.

With this launch, MG is looking to attract taxi operators and fleet buyers who want a practical and cost-effective electric vehicle.
